Although this piece is made to look like it is from the 19th century, i believe it is from the mdi 20th century, possibly circa 1950s 1960s. This peice is large and impressive, measuring 24.5 tall x 22 wide x 5.5 deep. This christo is made in the style of the antique new mexican santos and christos.
The figure of christ looks to be made of three pieces of old wood. The main body and head and two arms. The pieces of the christ figrue are all hand-carved, gesseoed, and painted. The cross is amde from two pieces of old wood, mortised and nailed together. The combination of using very old weahtered wood to make the piece and the aged look and wear to the painted surfaces are very convincing and it takes time and close examination to see that the piece is not from the 19th century. I don't know if this pieec was made in mexico, new mexico, or elsewhere. This piece is in good condition as shown in the photographs and shows surface wear, as described above. It has a screw-eye for hangnig to a wall and the nails holding the christ figure to the cross are iron. This piece will look great in any osuthwest decor, and even though not antique, it does have some vintage age. Please scroll down for more photos fo this piece. Size 24.5 tall x 22 wide x 5.5 deep.
